Most underrated shoegaze bands...

Most underrated band Ive come across is Detroit shoegaze band Majesty Crush...

Bio:

Majesty Crush was one of the few American rock groups which belonged to the shoegazer genre popularized in the UK in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Hailing from Detroit, Michigan USA, Majesty Crush was composed of lead singer David Stroughter, bassist Hobey Echlin, guitarist Michael Segal and drummer Odell Nails III.

While incorporating the same lush, dreamy sound as other shoegazer acts of the time, it was the lyrics of Majesty Crush songs that set them apart from all other artists of the genre. Stroughter's often strange and obsessive lyrics cover such subjects as stalking Jodie Foster (No. 1 Fan), torture (Boyfriend), a female cashier at an adult book store (Sunni Pie), actresses (Uma), tennis stars (Seles) and Italian porn stars (Cicciolina).

Majesty Crush released only one major label album, Love 15, in 1993. Among their notable releases are 1992's No. 1 Fan EP and 1994's Sans Muscles EP. The band broke up in the mid 1990s.

Lead singer Stroughter went on to form a similar outfit called P.S. I Love You and drummer Nails went on to perform with Astrobrite, Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins, Mahogany and Hunters.

Full Effect Records (www.fulleffectrecords.com) has released a Majesty Crush "Best Of" entitled I Love You In Other Cities.

haha no im nothing to do with this band. only got into them a few years ago, and ive collected all their cds/vinyls since. ive even got an unreleased album that they printed out on vinyl and everything but never released it. i guess they split b4 they could bring it out. Its not as good as their first album Love 15 though.

To my mind THE lost band from that era is Jane From Occupied Europe whose album fits right in there between Spacemen 3 / Loop and Chapterhouse / Slowdive. Check out this little fansite: http://www.btinternet.com/~birdpoo/jane.htm
